Morrisburg Public School takes pride in promoting “Bee your best.” We build strong character traits through education and student led action. Throughout the year we promote leadership in our student body by involving them in both local and community charitable acts. We participate annually in the community parade to collect food for our local food bank as well as monetary donations for our local Angel Tree. All of our students create cards of empathy and a group of volunteers deliver these to the Winchester District Memorial Hospital to raise the spirits of patients in the hospital during the holidays. Our “Me to We” Club members work throughout the school year to contribute to global action by making a donation to the organization Free the Children to improve education in other countries. We believe that by participating in these events, it fosters a sense of community and it continues to build strong character as well as leadership within our school.
As part of the Upper Canada District School Board, we follow the Board’s Strategic Plan, CREW, which stands for Collaboration, Resources, Educational Programming, and Wellness. This means that we put particular focus throughout the year to improve all of these pillars both here at the school, but also in our community. At Morrisburg Public School, we focus on engaging academic activities including comprehensive literacy, hands-on mathematics with a variety of manipulatives, and science investigations including outings to the St. Lawrence River Institute. We strive to meet every learning style at Morrisburg Public School.
At Morrisburg Public School, we take pride in our community-minded atmosphere, which fosters a strong learning environment that is both fun and educational. We have many community members and organizations who support our school initiatives in a variety of ways. For instance, the Morrisburg and District Lions Club, The Ontario Provincial Police, as well as local community mentors assist with our golf and technology program called Stay on Course for our Grade 6 students. We also have a strong relationship with the Hartford Senior Centre and our students learn about history, writing skills, oral communication, and character education when they visit their senior partners on a monthly basis. These are just a few examples of how Morrisburg Public School uses our community resources to engage our students while adhering to the Ontario Ministry of Education’s curriculum requirements.
